The 2022 Australian Kookaburra design is a reminder of the chortling creature’s flourishing presence in suburban neighbourhoods.

The design portrays the regular visitor perched on an ornamental bird bath among agapanthus, flowering plants regularly seen in Australian gardens. As well as the inscription ‘KOOKABURRA’, the reverse design also includes the coin’s weight, purity and year-date.

AUTHENTICATION FEATURE

For additional peace of mind, the coin incorporates an authentication feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. Detectable under a magnifying glass, it is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited.

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint’s 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990.
