LUNAR STORY
According to Chinese tradition, the emperor ordered a great race between all the animals on Earth to determine who should occupy 12 positions in the lunar calendar. In pursuit of the seventh-placed horse, the gentle and determined goat travelled alongside the monkey and the rooster. As they approached the finish line, the trio worked together to cross a wide river. Leading the way, the goat reached the other side and crossed the line to claim eighth place.
YEAR OF THE GOAT DESIGN
The reverse of each coin depicts a mature goat, a young goat and a baby goat grazing peacefully. The image embodies the auspicious phrase “Three Goats Bring Bliss” symbolising the end of winter and the arrival of spring, the renewal of all things and prosperous new beginnings. Featured in the design is a plum blossom tree representing purity, resilience and hope. The delicately frosted design on the 1oz silver proof coin appears on an immaculately polished table. The 1oz silver coloured coin depicts the goats in colour, while the 1oz gilded coin highlights the goats in 24-carat gold. Also included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘Goat’, the inscription ‘GOAT 2027’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
PRESENTATION PACKAGING
Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the coin is presented in a prestigious black display case with a geometric design on its magnetic lid. The case comes in an illustrated shipper featuring a goat. When arrayed with other shippers from the series, the resulting diorama depicts all 12 animals that successfully completed the Great Race.
ABOUT THE PERTH MINT
The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint's 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990.
